Your website’s job is one thing: turn a visitor into a customer. We’ve audited 200+ NZ business websites. Here are the seven mistakes we see almost every single time.
1. No phone number above the fold
80% of NZ service searches happen on mobile. If they have to scroll to find your number, they’ve already gone to your competitor.
2. Slow load times
Anything over 3 seconds and 40% of visitors bounce. Most Kiwi websites we audit load in 5-7 seconds. Compress those images.
3. ‘Welcome to our website’ headline
Nobody cares. Your headline should answer one question: ‘What do you do for me?’ Not ‘Welcome to John’s Plumbing’.
4. Stock photos of fake people
Real photos of your real team beats every stock image. Trust skyrockets the moment they see actual humans.
5. Hidden contact form
Don’t make people ‘go to the contact page’. Put a form on every page. Make it 4 fields max — name, business, phone, what they need.
6. No social proof
If you’ve got reviews, plaster them everywhere. Especially on the home page. Especially with the customer’s first name and suburb.
7. Auto-playing video / pop-ups in the first 3 seconds
You’re chasing them away. Let them at least look at the page first.
